About
Leg Lake Campsites features two primitive camping sites nestled along a 40-acre inland lake in the Rapid River/Manistique Ranger District of Hiawatha National Forest. Located about 0.25 miles west of County Road 437, these rustic sites offer a peaceful forest setting among hardwoods, pines, paper birch, and oak. Site 1 is positioned on the west side of the lake and features a very large, semi-open area ideal for group camping or family gatherings with trailers. Site 2 is a smaller, wooded site on the east side suitable for one family, with an unimproved boat access adjacent to it intended for day use only. The boat launch accommodates only small boats and trailers. Leg Lake provides excellent fishing opportunities for northern pike, largemouth bass, black crappies, and bluegills, with occasional catches of yellow perch and bullheads. The rustic environment offers swimming, berry picking, and a wonderfully serene camping experience. No drinking water or restrooms are available on site. Gasoline, groceries, and camping supplies can be found approximately two miles south on County Road 437 in the Thunder Lake area.
