About

Ironjaw Lake Campsite offers a serene, primitive camping experience in the heart of the Ironjaw Semi-Primitive Area within Hiawatha National Forest. This single-site campground is designed for one family with a small trailer and features a pull-through design with a tent pad situated on a hill overlooking Lake Nineteen. The site provides access to the 62-acre Ironjaw Lake, known as one of the better fishing lakes in the area with excellent spring crappie fishing and populations of northern pike, largemouth bass, bluegill, and bullheads. The campground embraces a rustic, semi-primitive environment with limited amenities but abundant natural beauty. Horse camping is permitted, making this an ideal destination for equestrian enthusiasts. The site is located directly on the non-motorized Pine Marten Run Trail, providing excellent opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. A boat launch provides lake access, though the steep approach requires caution and four-wheel drive vehicles are highly recommended due to limited turn-around space. Campers should come prepared for a primitive experience with no drinking water available on-site and only a pit toilet across from the parking area. The swimming area is in poor condition. A pack-in, pack-out policy is enforced, and visitors are limited to 14 consecutive days. Firewood collection from dead and down trees around the campsite is permitted. Groceries and camping supplies are available approximately six miles west on Forest Highway 13.
