Ahead of the Fourth of July holiday, remember that fireworks are illegal on public land. Possessing, igniting, discharging or using any kind of fireworks is prohibited on national forests and grasslands.

Mill Valley Campground is a rustic 15-site campground nestled in the mixed coniferous forest of the Stonyford Recreation Area within Mendocino National Forest. Located one mile north of Letts Lake and 17 miles west of Stonyford, the campground sits at roughly 4,600 feet elevation and caters primarily to off-highway vehicle enthusiasts, with OHV trails leading directly from the campground into the surrounding network. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets are on-site. Potable water is available seasonally but is typically turned off during winter months. Trash service operates only during summer; campers must pack out garbage at other times. The campground accommodates trailers up to 24 feet. Mill Valley operates on a first-come, first-served basis year-round. Payment is made on-site via QR code using the Recreation.gov mobile app. Peak season rates (May through September) are $10 per night; off-season rates are $5 per night.
