Cedar Camp Campground Closure

Cedar Camp Campground is closed for public safety. Closure is in effect.

About

Cedar Camp Campground sits in a forested setting of mature fir and pine trees in the remote backcountry of Mendocino National Forest, approximately 19 miles southwest of Stonyford via Goat Mountain Road. At roughly 4,300 feet elevation, the campground historically offered a quiet, primitive camping experience for those seeking solitude in Northern California's Coast Range. The campground is permanently closed and will not reopen. Fire damage from both the 2018 Ranch Fire and the massive 2020 August Complex has created safety hazards throughout the area, and mudslides have rendered the M5 Road impassable. The Forest Service has determined that the campground will be decommissioned rather than repaired. When operational, the site offered vault toilets but no potable water, and access roads were not recommended for trailers. Campers seeking alternatives should contact the Mendocino National Forest Supervisor's Office for information about other campgrounds in the forest.

Directions

Located 19 miles southwest of Stonyford via Goat Mountain Road. Access up Trough Ridge or Little Stony Road is not recommended for trailers. Note: M5 Road is currently impassable due to slides.
