About

Mill Creek Trailhead Campground is a rustic, six-site campground located in a wooded setting along scenic Mill Creek in the Salmon-Challis National Forest. The campground serves as a gateway to backcountry recreation, providing access to the Mill Creek Lake National Recreation Trail, Mill Creek Lake, and Firebox Meadows. The 7.7-mile Mill Creek Trail is a non-motorized route popular with hikers and equestrians. The campground features one accessible vault toilet, a hitching rail, and a stock unloading ramp, making it particularly suitable for horseback riders. Campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis for $5 per night. Interagency Senior and Access passes provide a 50% discount on camping fees. No potable water is available, so visitors must bring their own. Access to the campground requires traveling remote forest roads through Sawmill Canyon. The area offers opportunities for hiking, fishing in Mill Creek and nearby lakes, wildlife viewing, and OHV riding on designated roads. The campground operates seasonally from late May through September.
