Meadow Lake Campground is a high alpine destination located at 9,160 feet in the Lemhi Mountain Range, 22 miles from Leadore, Idaho. Positioned at the base of 10,720-foot Meadow Lake Peak and along the banks of 13.3-acre Meadow Lake, this campground offers a stunning mountain setting dotted with lodgepole and whitebark pine trees. The campground consists of 17 campsites including 13 single sites and 4 double sites designed for larger groups. Each site includes picnic tables, fire rings with cooking grills, tent pads, and a prep table. The campground provides drinking water from a hand pump, two vault toilets, and a day use area with additional picnic facilities. Most sites operate on a first-come, first-served basis, with only 2 sites available for advance reservation. Recreational opportunities include fishing in the twice-yearly stocked lake (no boat ramp, carry-in boats only with trolling motors permitted), hiking on nearby trails including Trail 342 which loops around the campground and Trail 057 which climbs to the ridge above, and wildlife viewing with frequent sightings of deer and mountain goats. The remote location and high elevation provide spectacular views and a true backcountry experience. Access is via Forest Service Road 002, which climbs 2,080 feet over 6 miles from Highway 28.

Directions

From Leadore drive 17 miles south on Highway 28 and turn right (west) onto Forest Service Road 002 at the old Gilmore Townsite. Follow the gravel road for 6 miles as it climbs 2,080 feet to the campground.
