About

Big Creek Campground is a rustic, no-fee camping destination in the Salmon-Challis National Forest, located at the confluence of the North and South Forks of Big Creek. With only three primitive campsites, it provides a quiet and remote setting for those seeking solitude in central Idaho's backcountry. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. The campground has a vault toilet but no potable water or garbage service, so campers must bring their own water and pack out all trash. The area offers opportunities for horseback riding, picnicking, and OHV trail riding. Due to the primitive nature and remote location, the campground has a maximum RV length of 16 feet. It operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations required.

Directions

From Challis, travel north approximately 15 miles on Highway 93 to Ellis. Turn right for about 25 miles to Big Creek Road (097). Turn left onto Road 097; the campground is approximately 3 miles further.
