About

Big Eightmile Campground is a primitive Forest Service campground located along Big Eightmile Creek in the Lemhi Mountains of the Salmon-Challis National Forest. Situated 14 miles west of Leadore on Forest Service Road 096, this quiet campground offers 10 sites equipped with picnic tables and fire rings in a natural setting. The campground serves as a basecamp for exploring the surrounding area via dirt roads and trails. Visitors can hike or mountain bike up Eightmile Creek Canyon, explore Dairy Creek Canyon, or visit the historic Blue Jay Mine. The area is popular with those seeking a more rustic camping experience away from developed amenities. Facilities are minimal with vault toilets available but no potable water on site. Campers must bring their own water and pack out all trash. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no fees and no reservations. Access requires driving approximately 5 miles west from Leadore on Lee Creek Road, then 9 miles southwest on Forest Service Road 096.

Directions
