Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park Campground
Open year-round for camping. The Turkey Oak campground loop is closed for renovations as of November 1, 2025. Sandhill and Lakeview loops remain open for reservations.
Special Weather Statement issued May 3 at 5:42AM EDT by NWS Jacksonville FL
Patchy to areas of locally dense fog have developed across inland portions of southeast Georgia, northeast and north central Florida early this morning. Visibilities may occasionally be reduced below one half mile for these locations through the early morning hours on Sunday. Motorists early this morning should remain alert for sudden changes in visibility, especially in low spots and near marshes, rivers, creeks or lakes. If driving, slow down and leave extra distance ahead of you in case a sudden stop is needed.
About
Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park, one of Florida's oldest state parks, was developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930s. The campground offers 73 campsites spread across three loops: Sandhill, Turkey Oak, and Lakeview. Most sites provide 20- and 30-amp electrical service along with potable water, while sites 57 and 60-67 in Lakeview have no electric hookups. Sites 16-18, 58, and 59 feature 50-amp service. Each site accommodates tents, trailers, and motorized RVs with a picnic table and fire ring/grill. The park's campgrounds feature modern bathhouses with hot showers, and the Lakeview bathhouse is fully ADA accessible with paved sidewalks leading to nearby sites 58 and 59. Coin-operated washers and dryers are available at the Sandhill and Lakeview bathhouses. A centralized dump station serves all campers. Each site permits up to two vehicles, two tents, and eight people. Located on 2,000 acres of rolling sandhills in north central Florida, the park preserves an old-growth stand of longleaf pines and a dramatic ravine system carved by Gold Head Branch. Visitors enjoy 5.4 miles of the Florida National Scenic Trail, nature trails including the Ridge Trail and Loblolly Loop, swimming and fishing at Little Lake Johnson, and abundant wildlife viewing opportunities. The park is open 8 a.m. until sundown year-round.
Directions
From Keystone Heights, Florida, head north on State Road 21 for approximately 6 miles. The park entrance will be on your right. Follow the park road to reach the campground loops.
