About
Located within the 25,000-acre Jennings State Forest in Clay County, Hammock Campground offers an authentic Florida primitive camping experience about 30 minutes northwest of Middleburg. The campground features 10 drive-up tent sites, each with a raised sand base, picnic table, and fire ring. A communal two-table pavilion with grills and a campfire ring with benches is centrally located near site 6, and a vault toilet is available a short walk from the pavilion. The forest encompasses ravines along seepage streams that feed into North Fork Black Creek, where spring-fed streams are visible while canoeing between Powell Ford and Ellis Ford. Jennings State Forest is part of the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail, making it excellent for birding and wildlife viewing. Recreational opportunities include hiking on multiple trails, horseback riding on equestrian trails, fishing, canoeing, hunting during scheduled seasons, and wildflower viewing. The forest is open for day use from 1.5 hours before sunrise until 1.5 hours after sunset. Campers should note that no electricity or potable water is available, and all food must be wildlife-proofed.
