Prospect Bluff Historic Site Closure Order

Authorities and Geographic Applicability. Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.53(c), this Forest Order: (1) Closes the Prospect Bluff Historic Site in its entirety for the preservation of objects or areas of historical, archaeological, geological, or paleontological interest.

Lake Delancy West Campground is situated along the western shore of Lake Delancy within Ocala National Forest, serving as both an OHV recreation area and a designated campground for the Florida Trail. The campground offers 30 sites for tent and small trailer camping under longleaf pines, with all sites within close proximity to the OHV corral and trail systems. The facility serves as a major entrance point to the Ocala North OHV Trail System and provides trail access for hikers, with the Florida Trail passing 0.3 miles from the campground. Day users can enjoy picnicking with lake views, while anglers have access to the lakeshore marshes for fishing. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with some sites available for reservation. Sites include basic amenities such as fire rings and picnic tables. Water hookup sites are available for $10 per night. Bears are known to frequent this area, and campers are required to store food in bear-proof containers or vehicles. The facility includes OHV corrals for secure overnight parking of ATVs and other off-road vehicles. OHV riders must possess proper passes and safety gear, with riders under 16 required to complete an online safety course.
