About
Located in Clay County's Jennings State Forest, the North Fork Black Creek Camp Zone offers a primitive backcountry camping experience requiring a moderate 2.5-mile hike from the Old Jennings Trailhead. This hike-in only site provides an open camping area capable of holding up to 9 tents, equipped with a single fire ring and picnic table. Campers must be fully self-sufficient as no potable water, electricity, or toilet facilities are available. Jennings State Forest encompasses over 25,000 acres of woodlands, rivers, and creeks. Several ravines along seepage streams lead to North Fork Black Creek, with spring-fed streams visible when canoeing between Powell Ford and Ellis Ford. The forest supports diverse recreational activities including hiking, fishing, horseback riding, canoeing, kayaking, birding, and wildlife viewing. Hunting is permitted during scheduled seasons, and all visitors should wear day-glo orange during hunt periods. Pets are allowed but must remain leashed. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited, and all food must be wildlife-proofed. The forest is open for day use from 1.5 hours before sunrise until 1.5 hours after sunset. A day-use parking fee is required at Old Jennings Trailhead.
