About
Middle Dangerous River Cabin offers a remote wilderness experience on the bank of the Dangerous River in Tongass National Forest. This 12x16 ft hunter-style cabin is primarily used by moose hunters and features four wooden bunks, a table, benches, and an oil heater. The cabin has no electricity or running water. A meat shed and campfire ring are located outside. The cabin sits on flat, wet terrain surrounded by willow and alder thickets with scattered cottonwood trees. Spectacular views of the braided glacial Dangerous River and its gravel bars attract visitors year-round. Brown and black bears are common in the area, and moose frequent the surrounding willow thickets. Sandhill cranes and geese visit during spring and fall migration. Access is by jetboat along the Dangerous River or via a 4-mile ATV trail from the Dangerous River Bridge at the end of Forest Highway 10. The river is large and glacial with numerous logjams, sandbars, and floating ice; non-motorized boats are not recommended.
Directions
Located 30 miles southeast of Yakutat, 200 feet east of the Dangerous River. Access is by jetboat or a 4-mile ATV trail from the Dangerous River Bridge at the end of Forest Highway 10.
