About
Meadow Creek Campground offers a rustic camping experience in New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, nestled in an open field along the New River. This tent-only primitive campground features 17 walk-in sites, each equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and grill. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no camping fees. Composting toilets are available year-round, and trash/recycling collection is provided, but campers must bring their own drinking water as none is available on site. The campground is conveniently located just one mile from Sandstone Visitor Center and offers easy river access. A new boat launch provides opportunities for paddling and fishing on the New River. Campers should be aware that the railroad crossing at the entrance is dangerous and not suitable for any motorized camping vehicles. RVs, trailers, fifth wheels, motorhomes, and car camping are strictly prohibited. The dirt road may become muddy in wet weather. Quiet hours are observed from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Sites accommodate up to 8 people and 4 pets, with a maximum of 2 tents per site. A group camping area is available for parties of 8 or more by special use permit through the park permits office. Train horns are audible from the campground due to proximity to the railroad.
Directions
Exit Interstate 64 at exit 139 and drive north past Sandstone Visitor Center towards Meadow Creek. In about 1.5 miles turn left and cross the railroad tracks. Bear right and follow the road into the campground.
