About

McKethan Pavilion is a day-use recreation area situated on the shores of McKethan Lake within Withlacoochee State Forest in Hernando County, Florida. This facility is designed for group gatherings rather than overnight camping, offering three covered picnic pavilions equipped with grills. Each pavilion accommodates 40-50 people and can be reserved up to 11 months in advance for events such as weddings, reunions, and corporate outings. The grounds include restrooms, a children's playground, and extensive trail access. A two-mile nature trail and a paved two-mile loop provide opportunities for hiking, biking, and wildlife observation. A dirt boat ramp allows launching of canoes, kayaks, and other non-motorized watercraft onto McKethan Lake. McKethan Lake is designated as a bird sanctuary, creating excellent birdwatching opportunities. Due to this designation, pets and alcohol are strictly prohibited. The facility operates from sunrise to 30 minutes before sunset year-round. Visitors pay a $2.00 per person day-use fee at the entrance honor station, plus $20.00 for pavilion rentals.
