About

East Croom Hunt Camp is a primitive seasonal campground located within the Croom Tract of Withlacoochee State Forest in Hernando County. The camp provides 25 designated sites exclusively for hunters during Florida's general gun and archery seasons, typically running from late November through early March. Reservations require proof of a valid Florida hunting license or wildlife management area stamp, and campers are limited to a maximum of two hunt camp sites per individual annually. This is true primitive camping with no potable water, electricity, or hookups available. Portable toilets are placed on-site only during hunting season. Tents, trailers up to 30 feet, and self-propelled RVs are permitted within designated site boundaries. Only cooking fires are allowed, and generators must be shut down between 10:00 PM and 5:00 AM. The discharge of firearms is prohibited on, from, or across any campsite. The Croom Wildlife Management Area spans over 20,000 acres across Hernando and Sumter counties, offering opportunities for deer, turkey, and wild hog hunting. Campers should be aware that alligators, snakes, and other wildlife are part of the natural habitat. Drought conditions and burn bans may affect camping availability; check the Florida Forest Service Burn Ban Dashboard before your trip.
