About

Citrus Tract Primitive Camp Zone Loop D offers backcountry camping in one of Florida's most scenic hiking areas. Located on the Citrus Tract of Withlacoochee State Forest, this primitive zone showcases rolling sandhill forests and rocky limestone karst terrain. The area is delineated by yellow-colored bands on trees and requires a 4-8 mile hike from either the Mutual Mine or Tillis Hill trailheads. This is a true primitive camping experience with no developed facilities. Some areas may have fire rings or picnic tables, but campers should be prepared to pack in all water and supplies and pack out all trash. The zone falls within a Wildlife Management Area, so hunters and campers should wear 500 square inches of blaze orange during hunting seasons. Recreational activities in the area include hiking, bird watching, wildlife viewing, stargazing, wildflower viewing, and nature study. Campers should contact WSF Dispatch at 352-797-4100 before each trip to verify if prescribed burning will be taking place in the area.
