Mccoy Creek Campground

Closed — Closed for the season. Reopens in late spring or early summer depending on snow conditions. During the off-season, there is no host, bathrooms are locked, and no services are available.

About

Located on the south shore of Palisades Reservoir in Caribou-Targhee National Forest, McCoy Creek Campground provides rustic camping at the water's edge. The campground features 17 first-come, first-served sites with gravel surfaces and limited natural shade. A primitive boat ramp allows visitors to launch small watercraft such as rafts, kayaks, and canoes, particularly at higher water levels. McCoy Creek flows through the area and empties into Palisades Reservoir, offering excellent fishing opportunities for anglers. The campground is regularly checked by a host during the operating season. Firewood may be available for purchase on-site. All campsites include standard amenities such as picnic tables and fire pits. Access to the campground requires traveling Forest Road 087 for approximately 7 miles from Highway 26/89, making it a quieter alternative to more developed campgrounds in the area. Visitors should be prepared for limited services and must pack out all trash, as there is no garbage collection at the campground.

Directions

From Alpine, WY, travel south on Highway 26/89 for 5 miles, then turn north onto Forest Road 087 (Salt River - McCoy Road) and continue for approximately 7 miles to the campground.
