About

Independence Dam Campground offers a quiet, primitive camping experience along the Maumee River in northwest Ohio. Located within Independence Dam State Park, the campground features 25 non-electric tent-only campsites nestled in a scenic riverside setting. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring for campfires. Vault toilets are available, but there is no potable water on site, so campers must bring their own water supply. The park sits at the site of a historic dam that was part of the Miami and Erie Canal system. Beyond camping, visitors can enjoy the 3.2-mile Miami-Wabash-Erie Tow Path Trail, a boat launch on the Maumee River, fishing opportunities, a playground, and volleyball courts. The Storybook Trail provides a short 0.2-mile interpretive walk suitable for families. Pets are welcome at all campsites with a maximum of two pets per site, and they must be kept on a leash no longer than 6 feet. Reservations are required and can be made up to six months in advance through the ReserveOhio system.
