10:17 AM — 2:45 PM

A band of snow earlier this morning produced some light snow accumulations across the region. West winds will gust as high as 30 to 40 mph today which will result in some blowing and drifting of the recently fallen snow. Localized visibilities of one quarter of a mile are possible, especially across rural and open areas. Some lake effect snow showers are also possible closer to the Interstate 80 corridor across northeast Indiana this afternoon which may increase the threat for blowing snow. Motorists should be prepared for rapid drops in visibilities due to the blowing snow. In addition, wind chills will continue to drop into this afternoon and will be in the 10 to 15 below zero range through the day.

Special Weather Statement issued January 19 at 9:30AM EST by NWS Northern Indiana

9:30 AM — 12:30 PM

A band of snow showers will continue to lift northeast across south central Lower Michigan this morning which will be followed by an increase in lake effect snow showers through the remainder of the day. Westerly wind gusts to around 35 mph will combine with this snowfall to create areas of blowing and drifting snow despite the limited snow accumulations. Be prepared for variable road conditions due to blowing snow along with rapid fluctuations in visibilities across short distances due to the banded nature of lake effect snow.
