About

Located in Rusk County near Tatum, Martin Creek Lake State Park offers a tranquil escape in the East Texas pine forests. The 287-acre park surrounds Martin Creek Lake, which is kept warm year-round by a nearby power plant, making it an excellent destination for fishing in all seasons. Anglers regularly catch largemouth bass, crappie, channel catfish, yellow catfish, tilapia, and sunfish. The park features a boat ramp, lighted fishing pier, and fish cleaning station, with canoe rentals available. The campground includes 58 sites ranging from lakefront locations with 30-amp or 50-amp electric hookups to primitive sites on a unique island setting accessed via a charming wooden bridge. Most sites include water hookups, picnic tables, and fire rings with grills. Restrooms with showers are available near the developed sites. The park also offers screened shelters and cabins for those seeking more comfortable accommodations. Nearly four miles of hiking and biking trails wind through the park. The Old Henderson Road Loop follows a former trade route between Henderson and Shreveport, while the 1.5-mile Harmony Hill Loop passes through remnants of the historic Harmony Hill community, now a Nationally Registered Historic District. The park is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., with the gate operating on an automatic code system. Swimming, water skiing, picnicking, and geocaching are popular activities, and ranger programs focus on the park's natural and cultural history.
