Open for day use only. No overnight camping is permitted. All visitors must purchase a day use pass. Entry is first-come, first-served based on parking availability.
About
Johnson Creek Day Use Area sits at the confluence of Johnson Creek and Lake O' the Pines, a 18,700-acre reservoir in the Pineywoods region of East Texas near the Arkansas and Louisiana borders. The lake was created by Ferrell's Bridge Dam on the Big Cypress Bayou as part of flood control for the Red River Basin. The day-use area provides a large group picnic shelter with electric hookups that accommodates up to 100 guests, making it suitable for family reunions, company picnics, and group gatherings. Recreational amenities include a boat ramp with courtesy dock, a fishing dock for bank fishing, a swimming beach, and a volleyball court. Fishing opportunities include largemouth, spotted, and white bass, along with crappie, catfish, and sunfish. Birdwatchers frequent the area as bald eagles are commonly sighted in fall and winter. This is strictly a day-use facility; overnight camping is not permitted. Visitors must obtain a day use pass and have it available to show at all times.
