About

Johnson Creek Campground is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers facility situated along the north shore of Lake O' the Pines in the Ark-La-Tex portion of the Pineywoods of East Texas. The campground provides a mix of RV and tent camping options with modern amenities and direct lake access for boating, fishing, and water sports enthusiasts. The facility includes 63 RV campsites with water and electric hookups, 22 tent sites (10 with electricity and 12 non-electric), and a group camping area with a covered shelter, restrooms with showers, and 12 additional RV sites with hookups. Each camping section has its own restroom facility with showers. Additional amenities include a boat ramp, swimming beach, playground, dump station, and trash receptacles throughout the park. Lake O' the Pines spans 18,700 acres of water across five counties, created by the Ferrell's Bridge Dam on Big Cypress Bayou for flood control in the Red River Basin. The lake is renowned for fishing, with healthy populations of largemouth bass, spotted bass, white bass, crappie, catfish, and sunfish. Anglers can fish from boats or from shore and below the dam. Birdwatchers frequently sight bald eagles during fall and winter, with occasional sightings in spring and summer. Hunting for white-tailed deer, waterfowl, and small game is available on nearby public lands. Historic attractions can be found in nearby Jefferson and Marshall, and Texas Wildflower Trail routes surround the lake.
