Caddo Lake State Park

Open

Open year-round. Currently under a burn ban with no wood fires allowed; charcoal grills and propane stoves are permitted. The county is under an emerald ash borer quarantine so firewood cannot be moved in or out. Elevated nitrate levels have been detected in the water system; infants under 6 months and pregnant women should bring their own drinking water.

About

Caddo Lake State Park sits on the Texas side of Caddo Lake, the only natural lake in Texas and a 25,400-acre labyrinth of cypress swamps, bayous, and sloughs straddling the Louisiana border. The park's 484 acres provide an ideal base for exploring this unique ecosystem, where ancient bald cypress trees rise from dark tannin-stained waters and Spanish moss creates an otherworldly atmosphere. The campground offers three tiers of sites to suit different camping styles. Mill Pond's 20 water-only sites are tent camping only with no RVs or trailers permitted, providing a more primitive experience near the water. Armadillo Run and Squirrel Haven offer 18 sites with water and 30-amp electric hookups suitable for tents or smaller RVs. For full-service camping, Woodpecker Hollow has 8 sites with water, sewer, and 50-amp electric, though tents are not allowed there. All sites include a picnic table, fire ring, and outdoor grill. Beyond camping, the park features nine historic cabins built by the CCC in the 1930s, screened shelters, 2.5 miles of hiking trails, canoe rentals, a fishing pier, and boat ramp providing direct access to the lake's 50+ miles of paddling trails. The park store stocks basic supplies and gifts.

From Karnack, travel north 1 mile on State Highway 43 to FM 2198, then east 0.5 miles to Park Road 2. The park is 15 miles northeast of Marshall.
