Mark Twain State Park Shelters

Open

Day-use shelters available for reservation 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. These are picnic shelters only; no overnight camping. For overnight stays, use the park's campgrounds or cabins.

About

Mark Twain State Park's two reservable shelters are located at Buzzard's Roost Picnic Area, offering panoramic views of Mark Twain Lake from bluffs covered in oak, hickory, and maple forest. These are day-use facilities for picnics and group gatherings, not overnight camping. The CCC Open Shelter is a historic structure built around 1941 by an all-African-American Civilian Conservation Corps company. It holds 40-45 people and includes picnic tables, electrical outlets, a water hydrant, and an outdoor cooking grill. It rents for $40 or is available first-come, first-served at no charge when not reserved. Huck Hall is an enclosed shelter accommodating up to 100 people (groups larger than 100 require special permission). It rents for $125 per day and features folding tables and chairs, two modern restrooms, a small kitchen with refrigerator and stove, and two outdoor grills. Shelters can be reserved online 30 days to 12 months in advance. For reservations less than 30 days out, contact the park directly. For overnight stays, the park offers separate campgrounds including Puma, Coyote, Fox RV, and Chipmunk, as well as camper cabins.
