Camping reservations for the 2026 season will be delayed until February 15, 2026, due to ongoing infrastructure repair/replacement projects. Campers are encouraged to continue planning for the upcoming recreation season. This delay is a precautionary measure to reduce the need to cancel reservations if work is not completed by the expected date.

About

Indian Creek Recreation Area sits on the northern banks of Mark Twain Lake in northeast Missouri, offering the lake's largest campground with 215 standard campsites plus additional primitive sites. The main campground provides 190 sites with electric hookups featuring 20/30/50 amp service, while 20 hike-in tent sites offer a more primitive experience. The recreation area includes four distinct sections: the main campground, group campground with 25 electric sites and shelter, a day-use area with group shelter and picnic sites, and a public boat ramp. The campground is well-equipped with modern amenities including showers, restrooms, playgrounds, a fish cleaning station, swimming beach, and hiking trails. All campsites accommodate up to 4 tents or 1 RV plus 3 additional tents. The west boat ramp remains open year-round for lake access. Mark Twain Lake is formed by the Salt River and the Clarence Cannon Dam, providing flood control, hydroelectricity, and extensive wildlife habitat. Bass fishing and boating are popular activities, and hunters also frequent the area during seasons. The lake honors Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain), the famous humorist and writer who was born just south of the lake in Florida, Missouri. Visitors can tour his birthplace at nearby Mark Twain State Park. The David C. Berti Shooting Range is located below the dam for additional recreation opportunities.
