Open year-round 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Water is shut off mid-October through spring. Day use is first-come, first-served with no advance reservations required.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) is expected to reach the Red or Unhealthy category. * WHERE...West central and northwest Minnesota. * WHEN...Until 9 PM CDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Some members of the general public may experience health effects. Sensitive groups, such as people with lung disease (including asthma), heart disease, and children and older adults, may experience health effects. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Gusty winds to 60 mph will create areas of blowing dust across western Minnesota. The Air Quality Index (AQI) is forecasted to remain in the Red/Unhealthy for All category through Friday evening.

The National Weather Service in Grand Forks has upgraded the Fire Weather Watch. * AFFECTED AREA...In Minnesota, West Polk, Norman, Clay, Kittson, Roseau, West Marshall, East Marshall, Pennington, Red Lake, East Polk, North Clearwater, Mahnomen, South Clearwater, West Becker, East Becker, Wilkin, West Otter Tail, East Otter Tail and Grant. In North Dakota, Towner, Cavalier, Pembina, Benson, Ramsey, Eastern Walsh, Eddy, Nelson, Grand Forks, Griggs, Steele, Traill, Barnes, Cass, Ransom, Sargent, Richland and Western Walsh. * WINDS...Southwest 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 20 percent. * IMPACTS...Any fires that ignite will spread rapidly and become difficult to control. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

Maplewood State Park's day use facilities provide visitors access to 9,250 acres of rolling hills, hardwood forests, and eight major lakes in the Leaf Mountains. Lake Lida features a sandy beach and large picnic areas perfect for families and groups. The park's scenic route offers excellent opportunities to observe wildlife, including 150 bird species and 50 mammal species. The maple forest displays brilliant orange, gold, and red colors in fall, making it a popular destination during autumn. Day use visitors can enjoy fishing in the park's eight major lakes and numerous ponds, which are home to walleye, bass, northern pike, and panfish. Ice fishing is popular during winter months. Boat, canoe, and kayak rentals are available from the park office for exploring the waters. Hiking trails connect to various scenic viewpoints, including Hallaway Hill, and lead to pre-contact habitation sites within the forest-prairie transition zone.
