Glendalough State Park Remote Yurt And Canoe-in Camp
Open year-round. Yurts available Thursday through Sunday only during winter months. Reservations available through Minnesota DNR up to 120 days in advance.
About
The Remote Yurt and Canoe-in Camp at Glendalough State Park provides one of Minnesota's most secluded camping experiences. Situated on the southeast shore of Annie Battle Lake, the area is accessible only by canoe, kayak, hiking, or biking along the Annie Battle Lake Trail (approximately 1.25 miles from parking). The 335-acre lake is designated a Heritage Fishery with special regulations that sustain excellent populations of sunfish, crappie, bass, and occasional walleye. Two yurts are available: a 16-foot diameter unit sleeping three people and a 20-foot unit sleeping seven. Both feature wood stoves for heating with free firewood provided by the park. The yurts include sleeping platforms with bunk configurations, tables, and chairs, but have no electricity or indoor plumbing. Cooking must be done outdoors at the fire ring. One yurt is ADA accessible. Three primitive tent sites with fire rings round out the camping options. Facilities include vault toilets near the sites and a food storage locker to protect provisions from wildlife. There is no potable water; campers must pack in their own supply or filter from the lake. The remote location and motor-free waters create an exceptionally quiet setting for fishing, paddling, and wildlife observation. Glendalough is one of only three Minnesota state parks offering yurt accommodations.
Directions
From Battle Lake, Minnesota, take County Road 16 west for approximately 2 miles. Turn right onto Glendalough State Park Road and follow to the park entrance. The Trail Center provides access to the Annie Battle Lake Trail leading to the remote camp area, or launch canoes/kayaks from the designated access point on Annie Battle Lake.
