Maplewood State Park Boat-in Sites

Open — Open year-round for reservations. Water systems are shut off in mid-October. Access requires watercraft.

About

Maplewood State Park's boat-in campsites provide a primitive camping experience accessible only by watercraft, offering solitude and direct access to the park's extensive lake system. The park encompasses 9,250 acres in the Leaf Mountains of west-central Minnesota, featuring eight major lakes and numerous ponds amid rolling hills that can change elevation by 300 feet within a mile. The park sits in a unique transition zone between western prairies and eastern forests, hosting diverse wildlife including 150 bird species, 50 mammal species, and 25 kinds of reptiles and amphibians. The landscape is characterized by sugar maple, basswood, and oak forests that display spectacular fall colors. Lakes within the park offer fishing for walleye, bass, northern pike, and panfish. Boat and canoe rentals are available from the park office for visitors who need watercraft to reach the sites. The park maintains 25 miles of hiking trails, and the North Country Trail passes through on existing park trails. Established in 1963, Maplewood preserves both natural beauty and archaeological sites from pre-contact habitation dating back over 6,000 years.
