About
Magpie Campground offers a quiet, primitive camping experience in the Dakota Prairie Grasslands of western North Dakota. The campground sits at the edge of the badlands along Magpie Creek, providing plenty of shade during summer months. With just 8 single-unit sites available on a first-come, first-served basis, it maintains a peaceful atmosphere even during peak season.
Each campsite features a picnic table, fire ring, and parking pad. Potable drinking water is available from a hand pump during the warmer months (spring through fall), though campers should bring their own water supply during winter when the system is shut off. An ADA-accessible vault toilet serves the campground. There are no hookups, showers, or dump stations.
The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the surrounding area. It provides direct access to the renowned Maah Daah Hey Trail, and popular destinations like Devil's Pass and the Ice Caves are within easy reach. Horse and pack animals are permitted, making it a good option for equestrian campers exploring the grasslands.
