About

Elkhorn Campground offers a remote camping experience in the breathtaking badlands of North Dakota's Little Missouri National Grassland, just north of Medora. The campground features 10 first-come, first-served sites with fire rings and picnic tables, positioned near the historic Elkhorn Ranch site where President Theodore Roosevelt once lived and worked in the 1880s. The scenic canyon setting provides stunning views of the unique badlands landscape. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the area's recreational opportunities. The Maah Daah Hey Trail, a premier multi-use trail system, has a trailhead located just half a mile east of the campground. The remote location requires visitors to be self-sufficient and follow pack-in, pack-out rules. Parking pads accommodate rigs up to 60 feet long, though there are no electrical hookups. The campground is accessible year-round via gravel roads, with limited services available outside the Memorial Day to Labor Day season.
