About

Lonesomehurst Campground occupies a picturesque setting on the South Fork Arm of Hebgen Lake in the Custer Gallatin National Forest, approximately 20 minutes west of West Yellowstone, Montana. The campground provides 26 sites spread among lodgepole pines at an elevation of 6,240 feet, with several sites offering electric hookups for RVs and many providing direct lakefront access. Hebgen Lake is renowned as Montana's premier stillwater fishing destination, with healthy populations of brown, cutthroat, and rainbow trout. The campground features its own boat ramp and dock, making it an ideal base for anglers and boaters. The 21-square-mile lake offers 65 miles of shoreline to explore, with excellent opportunities for swimming, kayaking, and canoeing. The surrounding area is rich with wildlife, including sandhill cranes, herons, Western grebes, white pelicans, osprey, Canada geese, mallards, wood ducks, loons, bald and golden eagles, as well as bison, deer, and moose. The location provides easy access to hiking, biking, and off-road vehicle trails that crisscross the surrounding national forest. West Yellowstone, just eight miles east, offers dining, shopping, and attractions like the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center. Yellowstone National Park's west entrance is within 20 minutes, making this an excellent alternative to crowded park campgrounds for visitors exploring the world's first national park.

From West Yellowstone, travel west on Highway 20 for eight miles, then continue four miles north on Hebgen Lake Road (Denny Creek Road/Forest Road 167).
