Lonesomehurst Campground occupies a scenic stretch of the South Fork Arm of Hebgen Lake within the Custer Gallatin National Forest. The 21-square-mile lake, fed by the Madison River, supports healthy populations of brown, cutthroat, and rainbow trout, making it one of Montana's top stillwater fishing destinations. A boat ramp and dock within the campground provide direct access for anglers and boaters. The campground offers 26 sites nestled among lodgepole pines, with four RV-compatible sites featuring electric hookups. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, with vault toilets and potable water available throughout. Firewood can be purchased from the campground host. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound, with frequent sightings of bison, moose, deer, and various waterfowl including Sandhill cranes, ospreys, and bald eagles. Bears are active in the area, and all food must be stored in approved bear-resistant containers. The surrounding landscape offers extensive hiking, biking, and OHV trails. West Yellowstone provides dining, shopping, and the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center, while Yellowstone National Park's west entrance is a short drive away.

From West Yellowstone, travel west on Highway 20 for 8 miles, then continue 4 miles north on Denny Creek Road (Hebgen Lake Road).
