About
Lower Twin Lakes Campground is nestled along Robinson Creek just below Lower Twin Lake in California's Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, 10 miles from Bridgeport. At an elevation of 7,000 feet, the campground is shaded by towering Jeffrey pines with aspens, sagebrush, and summer wildflowers dotting the landscape. The 15-site campground features paved roads and parking spurs, with sites equipped with picnic tables, food storage lockers, and fire rings with grills. Robinson Creek runs adjacent to the campground and offers good rainbow trout fishing directly accessible from camp. Upper and Lower Twin Lakes are within walking distance, about a half-mile away, where a public boat ramp and beach provide access to boating, canoeing, and fishing for Kokanee salmon, rainbow trout, and brown trout. The area's scenic mountain backdrop makes it a popular destination during summer months. Hiking opportunities abound, with the Robinson Creek Trail being particularly popular among visitors. The rugged Hoover Wilderness Area can be accessed from the Twin Lakes area, offering additional trails for hiking and horseback riding. Black bears frequent the area, and all food must be stored in the provided food storage lockers. Reservations are available during peak season (mid-May to early September) through Recreation.gov, with some first-come, first-served sites also available.
Directions
From Bridgeport, California, take Highway 395 and turn south at Twin Lakes Road and travel 9.6 miles. Turn left onto South Twin Road and travel approximately 0.6 miles across the bridge to the campground.
