About
Green Creek Group Campground is located at 7,500 feet elevation along Green Creek in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, approximately 12 miles from Bridgeport, California. The campground is tucked between Green Creek and a rocky outcropping, surrounded by towering Jeffrey pines, aspens, juniper, and sagebrush, offering partial shade and scenic mountain views. The campground features two group sites that accommodate 25 and 50 people respectively. Reservations are required through Recreation.gov. Facilities include vault toilets and picnic tables at each site, but campers must bring their own water as none is available on-site. The campground is accessible via 9-11 miles of narrow dirt road (Forest Service Road 142) from Highway 395. Green Creek offers excellent rainbow trout fishing accessible directly from the campground. The Green Creek Trailhead, located adjacent to the campground, provides access to the Hoover Wilderness and leads to Green Lake and East Lake, both surrounded by rugged peaks. The trail continues south through various alpine lakes before crossing into Yosemite National Park, making this an ideal base camp for backcountry exploration and wilderness fishing.
Directions
From Bridgeport, drive approximately 4 miles south on Highway 395 to Green Creek Road (Forest Service Road 142). Turn right and travel another 11 miles on the dirt road until the road ends at the campground.
