About

Green Creek Campground is a remote, primitive campground nestled alongside Green Creek in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. The setting features a mix of aspen and pine trees that provide good shade for campsites. The creek offers excellent fishing opportunities for those willing to make the journey. The campground serves as the primary trailhead for accessing the Hoover Wilderness. The trail leads first to Green Lake, then continues south to a network of other alpine lakes before eventually connecting to Yosemite National Park. This makes it a popular staging area for backpackers and day hikers alike. Access requires an 11-mile drive on a dirt road (Forest Service Road #142) from Highway 395. Individual sites are first-come, first-served, while two group sites accommodate 25-50 people and require reservations through Recreation.gov. Bears frequent the area; approved food storage containers are required.

Directions

From Bridgeport, drive approximately 4 miles south on Highway 395 to Green Creek Road (Forest Service Road #142). Turn right and travel 11 miles on the dirt road until it ends at the campground.
