About
Brush Creek Dispersed Camping is a primitive camping area in Sequoia National Forest where Brush Creek meets the Upper Kern River. This free camping spot sits along the Kern Wild and Scenic River corridor, approximately 15 miles north of Kernville on the west side of Sierra Way. The confluence of the two waterways makes it a popular destination for anglers. As dispersed camping, there are no designated sites, tables, or fire rings. Campers must bring their own water, as no potable water is available. Vault toilets are provided, and trash bins are available during summer months only, with pack-out required the rest of the year. Campfires and camp stoves require a free California campfire permit, obtainable online at preventwildfireca.org or from the Kern River Ranger District. During fire restrictions, campfires and barbecues may be prohibited. A camping prohibition is in effect through September 30, 2026, restricting camping within 50 feet of Brush Creek's water edge between the Kern River confluence and 0.5 miles east along both branches. Glass containers are prohibited throughout the area. Dogs must be kept on a 6-foot leash.
Directions
Head north from Kernville approximately 15 miles on Sierra Way. Brush Creek will be on the west side of the road, just north of Goldledge Campground.
