About
Upper Peppermint Campground is an undeveloped dispersed camping area situated at 7,100 feet elevation within the Giant Sequoia National Monument in Sequoia National Forest. This primitive camping area offers a remote, backcountry experience with no developed facilities, services, or fees. The area is accessible via Forest Road 21S07 and attracts campers seeking solitude and self-sufficient outdoor experiences. The campground is located near Peppermint Creek, which provides fishing opportunities for anglers willing to venture into the area. Campers must be entirely self-sufficient, as there are no toilets, picnic tables, trash service, or potable water available. Water can be treated or filtered from nearby natural sources. The moderate usage level means you'll likely encounter other campers, but the dispersed nature of the area allows for privacy. The campground operates seasonally from June 1 through November 15, closing during winter months due to snow and road conditions. Access is via CA 190 east from Springville, then north on Western Divide Highway and east on Forest Road 21S07 for approximately 31 miles total. Campers should check current road conditions and be prepared for high-elevation mountain weather. All dispersed camping regulations apply, including proper food storage in bear country and Leave No Trace principles.
