About
Lostine Guard Station is a historic U.S. Forest Service administrative facility situated along the Wild and Scenic Lostine River in the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest of northeastern Oregon. Located approximately 12 miles south of the town of Lostine via Lostine River Road (Forest Road 8210), the station sits at roughly 4,970 feet elevation in a forested setting of fir and pine trees. The guard station serves as an operational facility for Forest Service personnel managing the Lostine Canyon corridor and provides seasonal water access for visitors to nearby developed campgrounds such as Canyon Forest Campground, which is located directly across the road. This area is a popular staging point for backcountry trips into the Eagle Cap Wilderness, Oregon's largest designated wilderness area. Unlike other guard stations in the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest such as Anthony Lakes, Antlers, Two Color, and Peavy Cabin, Lostine Guard Station is not available for public rental through Recreation.gov and appears to remain in administrative use.
Directions
From Enterprise, Oregon, take Highway 82 northwest to Lostine. Continue south on Lostine River Road for 7 miles to the forest boundary where it becomes Forest Road 8210. Continue approximately 3.5 more miles up the canyon. The guard station is located across from Canyon Forest Campground.
