About
Lostine Guard Station is a historic Forest Service structure located in the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest near the Wild and Scenic Lostine River. Built as part of the Forest Service's historic guard station network, these facilities were originally constructed to house fire crews and forest rangers who patrolled remote areas of the national forest before road systems were well developed. The guard station is situated at approximately 4,970 feet elevation in Wallowa County, Oregon, along the scenic Lostine River corridor that provides access to the Eagle Cap Wilderness. The surrounding area features the rugged mountains and valleys characteristic of northeastern Oregon's Wallowa Mountains, with opportunities for wilderness access, fishing, and forest recreation. Unlike some other historic guard stations in the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest that have been converted to rental cabins available through Recreation.gov, Lostine Guard Station does not appear to be currently available for public rental or overnight stays.
