About
Lost Johnny Campground sits along the west shore of Hungry Horse Reservoir, a 27,750-acre body of water backed by the 10th highest dam in the United States. Located high in the Rocky Mountains west of the Continental Divide, the campground offers spectacular views and direct access to water-based recreation including fishing for cutthroat trout, swimming, and boating. The campground has 5 sites, all reservable through Recreation.gov. Each site includes a picnic table and campfire ring with grill. Vault toilets and bear-resistant food containers are provided. Potable water is not available, so campers must bring their own supply. Garbage services are available at nearby Lost Johnny Point. A concrete boat ramp can be accessed at Lost Johnny Point Campground to the northeast or Doris Point Boat Launch to the northwest. Home to lynx, grizzly bear, and bull trout, this area provides a true wilderness experience. A food storage order is in effect requiring proper storage of all food, garbage, and attractants. The maximum trailer length is 22 feet, making this campground best suited for tents and smaller trailers. The 16-day consecutive stay limit allows extended visits to explore the surrounding forest and nearby Glacier National Park.
Directions
Turn off U.S. Highway 2 at milepost 144 and follow the West Side Hungry Horse Reservoir Road (Forest Road 895) across the Hungry Horse Dam. The campground is 6.5 miles south of the dam. The road is paved to the site.
