About

Located on the west side of Hungry Horse Reservoir, Lost Johnny Campground offers an intimate camping experience with just 5 sites, all of which are reservable. Situated high in the Rocky Mountains west of the Continental Divide and south of the Canadian border, the campground provides spectacular views of the massive Hungry Horse Dam, the 10th highest dam in the United States. The reservoir spans 27,750 acres and offers excellent opportunities for swimming, fishing, and boating. Anglers can expect to catch cutthroat trout and whitefish. Concrete boat ramps are accessible at Doris Point Boat Launch to the northwest and Lost Johnny Point campground to the northeast. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and campfire ring with grill, and vault toilets are available. The surrounding Flathead National Forest is home to lynx, grizzly bear, and bull trout, making it a premiere destination for wildlife viewing. The campground is approximately 18 miles southwest of the West Glacier entrance to Glacier National Park. Access is via paved Forest Road 895, crossing the Hungry Horse Dam and continuing 6.5 miles south. Campers must bring their own drinking water. A food storage order is in effect due to bear activity, and bear-resistant food containers are provided for camper use.

Directions

Turn off U.S. Highway 2 at milepost 144 and follow the West Side Hungry Horse Reservoir Road (Forest Road 895) across the Hungry Horse Dam. The campground is 6.5 miles south of the Dam on paved road.
