About
Murray Bay Campground is situated along the massive Hungry Horse Reservoir in the Flathead National Forest, high in the Rocky Mountains less than 30 miles from the Continental Divide. Surrounded by towering mountain peaks, the campground offers 20 sites for tent and RV camping, with 11 sites available for advance reservation and 9 first-come, first-served sites. The reservoir was dammed to provide hydroelectric power and flood control, creating the 10th highest dam in the United States as a stunning backdrop. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and campfire ring with grill. Accessible vault toilets and drinking water from hand pumps are provided, though the pumps are not suitable for filling RV tanks. Campground roads and parking spurs are gravel. An on-site host is available during the operating season to answer questions. A concrete boat ramp within the campground provides access to the 27,750-acre reservoir for boating, swimming, and fishing for cutthroat trout and other species. The campground is located approximately 31 miles southwest of the West Glacier entrance to Glacier National Park, making it an excellent base for exploring the region. Visitors can enjoy hiking, wildlife viewing, big game hunting, and various water-based activities. Food storage orders are in effect due to bear activity. The stay limit is 16 consecutive days, with check-in at 2:00 p.m. and check-out at 11:00 a.m.
Directions
From Martin City, Montana, turn off Highway 2 and continue on the main road through the town heading south. This road becomes East Side Reservoir Road. Continue for about 22 miles to the campground.
