About

Fire Island Campground is a remote, boat-access-only campground situated on an island within Hungry Horse Reservoir in Montana's Flathead National Forest. With just 4 designated campsites, this primitive facility offers a secluded camping experience for those willing to travel by boat to reach it. The campground is located approximately 16 miles from the town of Hungry Horse. The campground provides basic restroom facilities but does not have drinking water, so campers must bring their own water supply. The setting offers excellent opportunities for lake fishing, boating, and tent camping in a forested environment. Glacier National Park and Hungry Horse Dam are nearby attractions for those looking to extend their adventure. This is an ideal destination for experienced campers seeking solitude and a backcountry atmosphere without a lengthy hike. The boat-in access naturally limits crowds and provides a quieter camping experience compared to road-accessible campgrounds in the area.

Directions

Boat access only. Launch from one of the boat ramps on Hungry Horse Reservoir (accessible via East Side Reservoir Road #38 or West Side Reservoir Road #895) and travel by boat approximately 16 miles from Hungry Horse to the island campground.
