Avalanches will release in the surface snow and on weak layers buried several feet deep, resulting in large to very large avalanches. * PRECAUTIONARY / PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Very dangerous avalanche conditions. Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended. Avalanches may run long distances and can run into mature forests, valley floors, or flat terrain. About
Fire Island Campground is a primitive, boat-access only campground situated on an island within Hungry Horse Reservoir in the Flathead National Forest. The reservoir sits along the South Fork of the Flathead River, stretching 34 miles long and covering 23,800 acres in the Rocky Mountains, approximately 15 miles south of Glacier National Park's west entrance. The campground features 4 designated campsites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets are available, but campers must bring their own drinking water as none is provided on-site. At an elevation of approximately 3,600 feet, the campground offers picturesque views of surrounding mountain ranges. The reservoir is popular for fishing, with opportunities to catch whitefish, bull trout, and cutthroat trout. Visitors can access the island from any boat launch point on Hungry Horse Reservoir. The area also offers wildlife viewing, scenic boating, and proximity to hiking trails. The campground is located approximately 16 miles from the town of Hungry Horse.
