Longview Campground offers a unique group camping experience on Perry Lake, situated on a dramatic high ridge overlooking the water and surrounded by lush Kansas forest. The campground features two distinct group camping areas designed for families and large gatherings. The upper loop contains 26 individual 30-amp electric sites nestled in a heavily wooded area, ideal for large parties and family reunions. The lower loop provides a primitive camping experience with a picnic shelter, fire pit, and vault toilet for those seeking a more rustic setting. A central shower and restroom facility serves both loops. Perry Lake, completed in 1969 for flood control, has earned the nickname "paradise on the plains" with its 159 miles of shoreline and 12,000 surface acres of water. The lake is renowned as one of the region's premier sailing destinations, though all types of boating are popular here. Anglers can target white crappie, flathead catfish, walleye, white bass, channel catfish, and sauger. The surrounding 27,000 acres of public land offer excellent wildlife viewing and hunting opportunities. The 29-mile Perry Lake loop trail provides hikers with varied terrain ranging from gentle southern slopes to rugged northern sections. An 18-hole disc golf course is located directly adjacent to the campground, offering one of Kansas's premier disc golf experiences with elevation changes and tree-lined fairways. The campground is within easy driving distance of Lawrence, Topeka, and Kansas City, providing access to urban amenities while maintaining a peaceful, natural setting.
