About

Longhorn Park Picnic Area overlooks Benbrook Lake and Dam in north-central Texas, easily accessible from the Chisholm Trail Parkway and southwest Fort Worth. Perched on the high rocky bluffs of the Clear Fork at the southeast end of the dam, the park offers scenic views and a variety of day-use recreational opportunities. The large picnic shelter can accommodate up to 100 guests and features restrooms and available parking. Individual picnic sites are scattered throughout the park, and a volleyball court and horseshoe pit offer additional recreation opportunities. The park also provides boat launching and fishing access to Benbrook Lake. One of the park's unique attractions is the nearby spillway cut for the dam, a popular fossil-hunting location where visitors can search for Cretaceous clams and coral remnants from 85 million years ago. Longhorn Park is a day-use only facility with park hours from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The park is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and is part of the Benbrook Lake recreation complex. Fort Worth's renowned Cultural and Museum District, Stockyards National Historic District, Botanical Gardens, Zoo, Bass Performance Hall, and downtown Sundance Square are all only a short drive away.

Directions

From Interstate 20 or 820, take exit 432A for Bryant Irvin Road, and go 3 miles south to the intersection with Dirks Road / Altabesa Boulevard. Turn right or west and go 1 mile to the park and Lake Office which will be on the left.
