About
Longhorn Park is a scenic day-use picnic area managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Benbrook Lake in southwest Fort Worth. Perched on the high rocky bluffs of the Clear Fork overlooking the southeast end of the dam, the park offers sweeping views of the lake and surrounding terrain. The primary facility is a large covered group pavilion that can accommodate up to 100 guests, available for reservation through Recreation.gov. Individual picnic sites, restrooms, and ample parking are provided. Recreation opportunities include fishing, boating (with a free boat ramp), birding, volleyball, and horseshoes. The adjacent spillway cut is a notable attraction for fossil hunting, where visitors can search for Cretaceous-era clam and coral remnants dating back 85 million years. This is strictly a day-use facility; overnight camping is not permitted at Longhorn Park. For overnight camping at Benbrook Lake, campers should look to Holiday Park or Bear Creek Campground, which offer sites with utility hookups.
