About
Long Bay Shelter is a rustic three-sided Adirondack-style survival shelter situated on Chichagof Island within the Tongass National Forest. The shelter features a wood stove for heating, plywood bunks for sleeping, and a small table. Located in a small bay south of Long Bay on the south side of Tenakee Inlet, the shelter sits approximately 26 miles west of Chatham Straits and 14 miles west of Tenakee Springs. This remote facility is accessible only by boat or floatplane and sees light use. The shelter provides basic emergency protection and is available for recreational use on a first-come, first-served basis. Visitors must bring their own water, as none is available on-site, and there are no restroom facilities. The shelter is maintained by the U.S. Forest Service as part of the network of survival shelters throughout Southeast Alaska's vast wilderness.

Located on Chichagof Island on the south side of Tenakee Inlet in a small bay south of Long Bay, about 26 miles west of Chatham Straits and 14 miles west of Tenakee Springs. Accessible only by boat or floatplane.
