About

Lock 6 Park is located on the Black Warrior River at the site of a former working lock and dam near the small community of Sawyerville in Hale County, Alabama. As part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Black Warrior and Tombigbee Lakes system, this park provides public access to the river and surrounding natural areas. The park features a boat ramp that provides access to fishing and other water-based recreation on the Black Warrior River. A group shelter is available for reservation and is suitable for family gatherings and picnics. The shelter comes with restrictions including a 10:00 p.m. closing time, prohibition of excessive noise, and requirements that renters clean up after use. A unique natural feature of the property is an artesian well that flows naturally on-site. Visitors can enjoy fishing, boating, picnicking, family gatherings, and wildlife watching at Lock 6. The park includes pit toilets and designated parking areas. This is primarily a day-use facility rather than an overnight camping destination, with the focus on providing river access and picnic facilities for visitors exploring the Black Warrior River corridor.

Directions

From Demopolis, Alabama, drive three miles west on U.S. Highway 80, and turn right at Maria Street. Go approximately two miles and follow signs to the campground entrance.
