Loafer Creek Horse Campground is a dedicated equestrian facility within Lake Oroville State Recreation Area, designed for campers traveling with horses. The campground provides 15 campsites, each accommodating two horses with corrals, tethering posts, and feeding stations. Every site includes a picnic table and fire ring with grill for cooking. The facility includes a horse washing station and warm-up area adjacent to the campground. Riders have direct access to Lake Oroville's extensive trail system, which winds through the oak woodlands and offers views of the lake and surrounding foothills. Human amenities include a combination restroom/shower building with accessible features and drinking water. The campground operates on a reservation system from April 1 through October 15 via ReserveCalifornia, with first-come, first-served availability during the off-season. Large groups can reserve multiple adjacent sites. Dogs are allowed in the campground but are prohibited on trails and day-use areas.

Directions

From Sacramento, take Highway 70 north 68 miles to Highway 162. Drive 9.5 miles east on Highway 162 to Loafer Creek Road. Turn left into the park entrance.
