About
Lake Oroville State Recreation Area features 10 distinctive floating campsites that provide an extraordinary camping experience directly on the water. These innovative platforms are only accessible by boat, offering campers a secluded escape on California's second-largest reservoir, created by the tallest earth-filled dam in the United States. Each floating campsite is a two-level 20' x 24' platform that can accommodate up to 15 people and three vessels (two personal watercraft count as one vessel). The platforms come fully equipped with a camp table, sink, propane BBQ grill with propane provided, lockable storage closet, private flush toilet, covered living area for shelter, and an upper sun deck perfect for sleeping or sunbathing. There's also room for tents. The exact locations of the floating campsites vary depending on lake elevation levels, with sites positioned near Bidwell Canyon Marina, the Spillway, Loafer Creek boat launch, and along the North Fork of Lake Oroville. Campers must provide their own drinking water, lighting, and garbage bags (pack out all trash). The floating campsites are located within 5 MPH zones around the lake for safety. Check-in is located at the Loafer Creek Kiosk. These developed floating campsites are believed to be unique to the western United States, making Lake Oroville a premier destination for adventurous water-based camping.
Directions
Accessible only by boat. Check-in at Loafer Creek Kiosk located on Loafer Creek Road off Highway 162, 9.5 miles east of Highway 70. Floating campsite locations vary based on lake elevation and will be provided at check-in. Main boat launch ramps at Bidwell Canyon Marina, Loafer Creek, Spillway, and Lime Saddle Marina.
