About

Live Oak South Campground is situated in Sequoia National Forest across the road from Lake Isabella, a major recreation destination in Kern County. The 11,000-acre reservoir marks the division between the Upper and Lower Kern River and offers excellent opportunities for boating, water skiing, windsurfing, and fishing for trout, bass, crappie, and catfish. The campground occupies a scenic grove of oak trees at an elevation of 2,700 feet, with 90 campsites that could accommodate RVs up to 30 feet. When operational, the campground provided access to Lake Isabella's water activities and served as a base for day trips to Sequoia National Park, the Trail of a Hundred Giants, and nearby sequoia groves within Giant Sequoia National Monument. The campground is permanently closed. Restrooms and potable water are not available at this site. Campers seeking lakeside camping near Lake Isabella should explore other nearby Forest Service campgrounds in the area.
