About
Live Oak North Campground sits at 2,700 feet elevation on the west shore of Lake Isabella, approximately 6 miles north of the town of Lake Isabella on Highway 155. The campground is nestled in a grove of scenic oak trees and provides easy access to the 11,000-acre reservoir, a popular destination for boating, waterskiing, windsurfing, and fishing. The lake is known for trout fishing during cooler months, with black and white crappie, bluegill, catfish, and largemouth bass available year-round. The campground features 60 single-family sites spread across paved interior roads with natural surface parking pads at each site. Each site includes a fire ring or pedestal grill and a picnic table. Two concrete block restroom buildings with flush toilets and showers serve the campground, though facilities may not always be operational. Live Oak North operates as an overflow campground, opening only during major holiday weekends: Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day. The campground is managed by Rocky Mountain Recreation under a Forest Service concessionaire permit. Nearby attractions include the Trail of 100 Giants and numerous sequoia groves within Giant Sequoia National Monument. The Giant Sequoia Mercantile in Kernville, about 5 miles away, offers camping supplies and equipment.
