Air Quality Alert issued June 30 at 9:52AM MST by NWS Flagstaff AZ

9:52 AM — July 1st, 11:00 PM

The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) has issued an Ozone High Pollution Advisory for Flagstaff through Wednesday due to influence the Pocket Fire. This means that forecast weather conditions combined with existing ozone levels are expected to result in local maximum 8-hour ozone concentrations that pose a health risk. Adverse health effects increase as air quality deteriorates. Ozone is an air contaminant which can cause breathing difficulties for children, older adults, as well as persons with respiratory problems. A decrease in physical activity is recommended. You are urged to car pool, telecommute, or use mass transit. The use of gasoline-powered equipment should be reduced or done late in the day. For details on this High Pollution Advisory, visit the ADEQ internet site at www.azdeq.gov/forecast/flagstaff or call 602-771-2300.

Coconino National Forest

STAGE 2 - Temporary Road Restrictions for Fire Danger

In association with Stage 2 Fire Restrictions, specific forest roads in the area of the San Francisco Peaks, Marshall Lake, and Pumphouse Wash are closed to motorized vehicles.

About

Ashurst Lake Campground occupies a scenic position along the shore of Ashurst Lake in Coconino National Forest, roughly 20 miles southeast of Flagstaff at 7,132 feet elevation. The 25 campsites are scattered through a picturesque stand of gnarly old juniper trees and pinyon pines, offering a classic high-desert forest camping experience with lake access. The lake supports fishing and board sailing, with motorized boats limited to a single electric motor or gasoline engine of 10 horsepower or less. Birdwatching peaks during spring waterfowl migration when white-faced ibises, cinnamon teal, pintails, bald eagles, osprey, hawks, and songbirds frequent the area. The San Francisco Peaks provide a dramatic volcanic backdrop on the horizon. Graveled roads surrounding the lake offer easy access for passenger vehicles and bicycles, while rustic two-track roads invite mountain biking and hiking into the surrounding mixed juniper-ponderosa forest for wildlife viewing.

Directions

From Flagstaff, drive south 19 miles on Lake Mary Road, then east approximately 4 miles on Forest Road 82E.
