Closed — Closed for winter. The campground operates early May through mid-October. When closed, the site may still be accessible if roads are open, but no services are provided: drinking water will not be available and all toilets will be boarded up except one near the boat launch.

About
Ashurst Lake Campground and its sister site, Forked Pine Campground, rest on the shores of Ashurst Lake in Coconino National Forest. Both campgrounds hug the lakeshore with campsites huddled in a picturesque stand of gnarly old juniper trees and pinyon pines. One of Ashurst Lake's most notable characteristics is its ability to hold a high-water level in drought years, making it a reliable destination when other northern Arizona lakes may dry up. The lake is stocked with trout, bass, and channel catfish, providing excellent fishing opportunities. Boating is permitted with electric motors or single gasoline engines limited to 10 horsepower. The lake also offers enough wind for windsurfing and board sailing. Birdwatching is exceptional during spring waterfowl migration, with white-faced ibises, cinnamon teal, pintails, and other ducks visible in the shallows. Bald eagles, osprey, hawks, and songbirds are commonly spotted in the area. Rustic gravel and two-track roads surrounding the area offer opportunities for mountain biking and hiking through the juniper/ponderosa mixed forest. The San Francisco Peaks stand majestically on the horizon, providing a grand display of Arizona's volcanic past. A graveled road surrounds most of the lake, providing convenient access for passenger vehicles and bicycles.
Directions
From Flagstaff, drive south 19 miles on Lake Mary Road, then turn east and continue about 4 miles on Forest Road 82E. The gravel roads provide convenient access for most passenger vehicles.
